Shadowman: An Elusive Psycho Killer and the Birth of FBI Profiling

Monday, May 9th @  6 pm, Author Ron Franscell presents Shadowman: An Elusive Psycho Killer and the Birth of FBI Profiling

Shadowman is a pulse-pounding true story of the first time in history that the FBI created a psychological profile to catch a serial killer after a seven-year-old girl went missing from the Montana campground where her family was vacationing.

In 1973, when crime-solving relied heavily on such scientific methods as lie detector tests, which were considered highly reliable, and even truth serum drugs, if you can believe that. When it came to the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit, most cops lumped psychological profiling with psychics. But in the search for the killer of 7-year-old Susie Jaeger, they were stumped, so to the FBI they went. The profile the BSU created brought their attention back to a suspect they’d looked at and dismissed, but who fit the profile to a T. He was arrested, and confessed to four murders, including Susie’s. It was a huge turning point in crime-solving history, which will make the book catnip to the hordes of true crime fans out there. And, it’s written with deep authority and authenticity, thanks to the author conducting scores of personal interviews and reviewing thousands of FBI documents..

Come down and hear Franscell talk about the crime and the breakthrough of criminal profiling.
